Such a mover!

I can't believe that Darryl is already 9 months old. It is amazing to think about everything that has happend these past nine months. I remember thinking that I couldn't wait for him to get big enough to move around, laugh, and show his personality. I couldn't wait for that day to come...
Well now that day is here!! He is so much fun. He is crawling like crazy, standing, and has attempted to take some first steps but is still figuring that out. Chris and I are both still predicting that he will be walking by Christmas.
He loves to explore everything! Our entire living room gets destroyed on a daily basis. He loves turning the pages of books, pushing buttons on his toys, clapping his hands, wiggling, and standing by the window to watch his puppies play.
He also loves family wrestlemania! During the day when Chris and I are home we will all get in bed and wrestle. Darryl will laugh so hard when Chris throws him around the bed and tickles him with his beard. It is so fun that he is big enough to do this!
Darryl also loves his friends. Chris and I started going to a new small group and almost everyone has babies under one year old! We have been getting them all together like crazy and it is so fun to watch them play. Last weekend we had Owen, Noah, Lila, and Karris over and they all just played and laughed while the adults hung out. Darryl threw his first fit though because he realized that these other babies were playing with his toys. He tried to take one away from Lila but she fought back. Chris and I just laughed because we knew the day of fits would eventually come.. but so far once we say "no" you stop really quickly so we will enjoy this while it lasts!
Last night a group of us got together to hang out and all the babies played. Then when it was time for bed we had you all in pack n plays all over the house! You all slept great though because you were so tired from all the playing and laughing.
I love you Darryl! I'm so excited that next week I have several days off for Thanksgiving so we will get to spend lots of time together. We are going to be heading up to Welch to visit my Dad's side of the family and I am so excited!!

First Haircut!

On October 8th, it became very apparent that little man's hair was getting WAY too long. So we took Darryl to see our friend Dayla to get his first official hair cut! It was so much fun. While we were waiting in the lobby, Chris gave Darryl some grapes to eat (he wasn't sure how he felt about them) and then he laughed and "talked" to anyone who would listen.

When we went back to see Dayla, she had Chris sit in the chair with a smock on and then put Darryl in his lap. Darryl got a tiny smock of his own and it was so cute! He never fussed, but did get distracted several times because he wanted to watch Dayla and the shiny scissors she was holding. So Dayla gave him a brush to play with and he just laughed and laughed. Toward the end of the cut, Dayla decided it would be best to use the clippers around his ears. It was so funny! Darryl held perfectly still and stared straight ahead into the mirror with a look on his face that said "What is that noise??"

When we were done his hair looked so good!! I couldn't believe how much hair came off of his head and he still had so much left! He looked so much older...like a little boy!

An oddly sweet moment...

Well Darryl, you have been a little sickly these past few weeks. Allergies have been at an all time high and even though your standing more and more now (which helps the drainage) your still swallowing a lot of snot! Your doctor thinks thats why you have been throwing up every once and a while. Not fun for you, and very scary for Mommy and Daddy when it happens!

One of your throw up incidents will always stick out in my mind though because of how amazing your Daddy is. You were in your high chair and I was feeding you while talking with my friend Hannah. I heard you start to cough a little, and then that unmistakeable sound... I looked back at you and you had thrown up all over yourself and your high chair.

I'm not going to lie to you... I was pretty grossed out. My first reaction was, "Oh wow how in the world am I going to get all of this cleaned up?" You of course were bawling. You were covered. That's when the moment happend that I will never forget. Your Daddy was in the living room and he of course ran into the kitchen as soon as he saw what had happend. Without hesitation, he grabbed you and held you close to his chest, not caring that this meant that he was getting your gunk all over his new white shirt. He wasn't grossed out. He didn't wait for someone else to get you. He didn't hesitate. His first reaction was to hold you and make you feel better.

Your Daddy loves you more then you could ever imagine Darryl. I pray that even when you guys butt heads in the future, that you will never forget that he loves you more then you could possibly imagine.

We love you sweetheart. Hope you feel better soon!

A Snuggly Evening

Today was a day that Darryl went to CLC, so his nap schedule was a little off. We put him down for a nap at 4 and he slept until 6 p.m. We went in to go get him and he was still really tired. Chris and I had been watching a movie so we brought him in to our room with us and laid him down on Chris's chest. He was so snuggly! He was in the perfect between stage of sleepy yet awake. I laid my head on Chris's shoulder and just stared into Darryl's eyes and he just laid their contently and smiled back at me. It was heaven! We laid there for another 30 minutes and it was amazing. He would smile and me and Chris and do sweet little laughs in between fighting sleep. I could have stared at that little face forever!!

Part 3: First Plane Ride

A few weeks ago, Darryl took his first plane ride! He and I went to Nashville to visit my parents. I was pretty nervous about flying by myself! I wasn't sure what to expect. On the way to Nashville, we had one connection in Houston. It was tricky figuring out his eating schedule (I wanted to time it where he would have his bottle on the flight but eat his food before we got on.) But everything turned out really great! He made friends very quickly. Every flight there were people who wanted to play with him. And on the way home, Barry Switzer sat behind us and played peek-a-boo with Darryl! He's so popular...

Nashville was a great trip. We did so much while we were there! We saw Cherish Wilson, went to my parent's church, played in fountains, had a photoshoot, and my parents even threw a party for him! Lots of people came to meet him. It was really great to get to meet a bunch of my parent's friends as well as get to see how loved they are! Here are some photos from the trip...

End of Summer Part 2: John Mark's Birthday

In July, we celebrated John Mark's Birthday! It was right after Chris and I got back from high school camp, so we were a little tired, but the party was so much fun! I can't believe he is already four! Its crazy how fast John Mark has grown up, and I know its going to seem that fast with Darryl! Mom and Dad got to go with us, which was so fun! Baby Darryl got John Mark an Iron Man mask. One of my personal favorite parts though was when Chris ordered cheese fries with bacon and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. But when Chris got his order he noticed something wasn't quite right...instead of putting the bacon on the fries....they put it on the PB&J! Chris took a bite and absolutely loved it. Here are some pics...

End of Summer Review... Part One

Ok so these past couple of months have been a little crazy in the Wehunt household. Chris is still working away at his 25 hours of school and full time job while I'm working full time and attempting to keep our home in order (key word being "attempting" :) ). It has pretty much felt like we have been doing all we can just to keep our heads above water! But baby Darryl has been doing so great and has been so resilient through it all. We are also so thankful for so many friends who have helped watch him and encouraged Chris and I as we battle these next few months until he graduates. It has been a hard couple months but also has been so incredible for our marriage. It's funny how when we go through hard times God keeps bringing Chris and I closer together. I am so blessed to have such an amazing husband and adorable son!!
Anyway, enough with the sappy stuff. I was looking at all our pictures and realized how far behind I am on updating the blog! So I'm just going to start doing some recap posts from the last few months starting with... Baby Darryl's love of water!
First of all, Darryl LOVES baths. Like is obsessed with them. It doesn't matter if he is tired, hungry, or just plain angry...you throw him in the bathtub and he is the happiest guy in the world. About a month ago, he outgrew his baby tub! He now sits in the big boy tub all by himself. He loves crawling around, splashing, and getting water poured on his head!

He also loves to swim! There were so many weekends this summer that we would take him to Karen's to swim in her pool. He loved crawling around as well as swimming in the deeper water. Chris and my Dad worked with him and he will even put his head underwater! He always comes up laughing.
We went to Nashville in August (more on that to come) and while we were there we went to a park that had fountains that came out from the ground. He LOVED it, even when he got splashed in the face! He would keep crawling over and sticking his face right over the fountain. One time I didn't get to him in time and it got him really good...and he just laughed! He probably would have stayed all day but his little knees were getting skinned up from the pavement! We had a great time!

Its crazy to think that this time next year he will be running around and really swimming! That will be a fun summer!

Crawling and Grunting

Ohhhh Darryl...it seems like you are doing something new every day!
About a week ago, you OFFICIALLY started crawling. You had been scooting for a long time, and you could definately get around that way, but as of a few days ago you learned how to put one hand in front of the other and you are officially moving around...and fast!

Yesterday I went into the kitchen to put your bottle in the sink and when I came back you were on the other side of the living room and in your diaper basket throwing your diapers all over the place. When I walked in you just looked at me and smiled...almost like you were saying... "I'm not doing anything wrong Mommy..."

Yesterday morning you imitated Daddy for the first time and it was so funny! You woke up around 7:30, so I grabbed you and put you in bed with us for a little bit. You crawled around, laughed, grabbed Daddy's beard while he was trying to sleep, and at one point you just rolled onto your back with a content little smile...just looking into my eyes. I was already in heaven when you Daddy stretched and made a grunting sound. You looked at him, put your hands over your head to "stretch", and did the same grunt! We thought it was a coincedence so Chris grunted again...and you did it again! We laughed and laughed while you did it several times.

You are so much fun!!

Standing man!

Well this week Darryl did something that I wasn't expecting... yes he is still working on crawling and sitting, but before he decided to perfect those things, he decided to STAND UP! I couldn't believe it!!!

We were over at the Smith's house and we had just come in from a day of swimming. We were playing on his blanket when his bouncy seat caught his eye. So he rolled over and proceeded to scoot toward it. He had studied it before so I didn't really think anything of it. First he gets one hand on it, then he gets the other. From there he gets onto his knees and starts bouncing. The whole time I'm sitting there thinking, "how cool! He has never done that before! That is so cute!"

Next thing I know he has a burst of energy and leaps to his feet! At this point he is standing straight up and down, looking around the room. He catches my eye after about 30 seconds and laughs. He then falls, bonks his head and cries so I immediately scooped him up and we celebrated. It was so cool!

So I thought it was a fluke but nope! He has done it several times a day, every day since. He loves it! He is always looking for things to pull up on.

The funny thing is, it wasn't until yesterday (four days later) that he finally got good at sitting up on his own! Anyone else find this to be a weird order of things???

I'm so proud of you son! You are going to be a handful, I can already tell!

Back from Beach Week!

We have been back from camp for a week now and today is the first day that we all aren't just plain exhausted! It has been an amazing last few weeks!

Daddy and I left for Beach Week so you spent the week with your grandma Vickie and grandpa James. We missed you like crazy but I know that you had a great time. Grandma and grandpa took you to see Grandpa's side of the family in Pryor and Welch OK. They said that you did so great in the car and that everyone loved you! On your trip you saw Great Grandma Ella, Aunt Jo and Uncle Ernest, Aunt Patty and Uncle Wayne, Uncle Charlie, Great Grandma Thelma, Aunt Rubie, and Uncle John. Whew! They all loved you and had a great time playing with you. Your Grandma Ella even gave you an amazing quilt that she made just for you!

You have done so many things! I could tell as soon as we got home that you had grown so much just in a week! When you saw me when I got home you immediately smiled. I snatched you up and hugged and kissed you like crazy. But it was when you saw your Daddy that your eyes really lit up! You reached for him and as soon as you were in his arms you grabbed his beard and let out a sigh of relief.

You are doing so many new things! The first thing I noticed was that you were pulling yourself up in the bathtub and splashing while in the sitting position. So much fun!

Also, you are a crawling machine! You haven't gotten the exact moves down yet (you have your legs figured out but your arms can't keep up) but you will "crawl" all over the place. One of my favorite new games is to lay a blanket down and have you chase me all over the blanket. You are really fast! I can't imagine how fast you will be once you are actually crawling!

Plus, you are getting better and better at sitting up! Its so funny to watch you work so hard at it. You always have this look of concentration....

You laugh all the time now and your personality is really starting to come out. You just get more and more fun as the months pass by, and soon you will be six months old! I can't believe it!

More to come!
