Our last weekend with just the three of us...

I have so much to post! First, I want to be sure and write about the Wehunt family's last weekend with just the three of us...

It was becoming fairly obvious that baby Payton was going to come very quickly. So the Friday before last, I really treasured the time that I had just one on one with Darryl. It's funny how excited I was for Payton to come, yet in a way I was kind of confused on how I could love anyone as much as I love Darryl (turns out, its possible, but we'll get to that in the next post...

So when Chris left for work Darryl and I began our day of fun. Since I was rather large pregnant and little sister was pushing on my hip in a way that made it very hard to walk, I was limited on what all we could do. However, we started our morning by going to the park with a bunch of girls in my small group and there kids. For the first time, I really began to realize how big Darryl was getting because we went to the big playground at Hafer and I was able to just sit on the bench and watch him play. He maneuvered himself on all the slides, tunnels, and climbing walls completely by himself. I had gotten so used to following him around on the playground, watching his every move, that it was so fun to just sit back and watch him to see how he interacts with other kids without mommy standing right there.

It was a blast. Most of his favorite friends were there... Karis, Lila, Gunner, Guy, Calvin, and Caroline. He played and laughed until it started getting so hot (its been the hottest summer EVER it seems like...temps always in the 100s).

When we left the park we swung by a garage sale to buy some baby girl clothes, and then we headed home. Immediately, Darryl asked for "My Nemo". His latest obsession has been the movie Finding Nemo. He loves it. I'm convinced he knows it by heart. My favorite thing he does (besides how sweetly he asks for it) is he does the chant from the "ring of fire" scene (ah he ah he ah ho ho ho) and dances around the living room. He loves it so much that Chris, Rachel, Karis, and I took him to the Disney store that night to buy a stuffed Nemo. It never leaves his side! It is so cute! So we watched nemo and ate some fish crackers together and snuggled.

After the movie, I took the opportunity to take a nap with him. I LOVE taking naps with him. He is so snuggly and wakes up so happy! We pretty much slept until Daddy got home. It was such a ordinary, yet extraordinary and special day for us. On Saturday, the three of us hung out all day just playing outside, swimming, and playing at the mall and buying Nemo that night.

I didn't think I could love my family any more then I already did...until baby sister arrived...

Payton is now here and is wonderful. More to come...
Darryl, Daddy, and Nemo

Doesn't he look good with a boy in one arm and a girl in the other?

He loves helping mommy organize clothes! And loves putting them on...

Summer Fun

We are so glad that summer is here! I remember all last summer longing for this one because Darryl would be big enough to really get to play. As soon as the pools opened we were over at Karen's house ready to dive in! We got Darryl a floaty suit and he loves it...and we crack up because it looks like he has big muscles! He laughed and laughed whenever we got into the pool with him. He swam for hours before crashing out for a 3 hour nap!

We have also spent a lot of time at the zoo and at the Omniplex. Darryl loves feeding the birds at the zoo. One time one even landed on his shoulder and he just laughed! He is so funny and full of energy. Last time we went we were able to let him play in a big bounce house that they had set up. He laughed and laughed as he wore himself out bouncing off the walls. Then we rode the carousel and he loved it. I fall more in love with his little laugh every day!

Darryl and Daddy love to explore the omniplex together. They have an entire section made just for babies under 3 years and Darryl loves it. He loves to splash in the water tables and build tall towers with the blocks. Last time we went, he even got some facepaint! Daddy put it on him and he thought it was so funny when he looked in the mirror.

We have been so blessed with such fun friends and places to go. Darryl always has friends to play with and Mommy and Daddy love the company too! We can't believe how much God has blessed us these past few months, even in the midst of Chris's job transition.

This past week Darryl went with us to Middle School Camp. He absolutely loved it and thought that everyone was there to see him. He would give everyone a big wave and a big southern "Hiiiiiiiii" for everyone to hear. He loved playing in the lake and watching the kids do their rec games. He even did great on the drive there even though he was constipated the whole time! Mommy and Daddy were holding back tears of laughter as we watched him try to poop for the entire two hour drive. Poor thing! Luckily he wasn't sick while we were there and was still able to have a good time.

Did I mention how much he loves going to the park? He dives down the slides with no fear. Its so funny to watch our little 16 month old play right alongside 3 year olds! I love spending Friday mornings at the park and then afternoons in the pool.

Speaking of which, we are about to head out to meet some friends to swim! More updates soon. Payton is growing so fast and is doing great! I can't believe she is going to be here in two short months. It is going to be crazy but fun to have two kids! Praise God for all of his blessings.

San Diego and Lots of Talking

A few weeks ago we got to go on an incredible vacation. We flew to San Diego and stayed with my brother and parents at an amazing beach house. It was unbelievable! We were right on the beach so we could take Darryl out on the sand all the time!
He loved the beach. The first time he put his toes in the sand he giggled and squealed. Even after getting knocked over by a wave he still laughed and had a great time. He loved it when we would build sandcastles so he could smash them.
Every morning we would walk down to the beach to a playground where he could play right on the beach. It was so beautiful to watch him play with the ocean behind him. He has gotten really brave when it comes to slides! He would climb up the steps and go down the slides head first without any hesitation. He definately has no fear!
The second day we were there we went to the San Diego Zoo. We stayed for 5 hours and Darryl stayed awake and happy the entire time. It was so fun to watch him point and laugh at the different animals. His favorite was the Polar Bear that swam in a tank right next to him. He also loved climbing in tunnels and giggling with Daddy. It was so much fun! The next day we went to the LegoLand Aquarium and you could just see his little brain working as he watched all the fish. It is so much fun to take him new places to explore new things.
He is talking like crazy too! He has said lots of new words...his favorite being the word "bubble". We played with a bubble gun on the balcony and he would proudly say the word as he popped them. He also says "ball", "Football", "Duck", and "Bird". It is so cute and fun to hear him say new words!
We had a blast and we are so thankful for our family for such an amazing trip!! I'll post pics soon...

Darryl's First Surgery and First Hiking Trip!

Darryl is just so much fun! We have had a blast taking him new places and watching him discover new things. Last weekend, we went with our friends Josh, Jenny, and their daughter Lila to the Wichita Mountains. It was such a fun road trip!

We left around 10 a.m. and let the babies nap while we laughed and talked in the car. Once we got there, we visited the nature center and slathered the kids in sunscreen (or "warpaint" as we called it in front of Darryl). We then drove to a picnic spot and had a yummy lunch while Darryl and Lila played.

Then it was time to hike and fish! Darryl loved touching and "climbing" every rock we saw. Lila is a few months younger then Darryl, so she stayed pretty content strapped to Josh's chest in a baby bjorn (didn't take too long before she was fast asleep!).

We found some spots and started fishing. Josh caught a fish pretty quickly and we brought Darryl down to touch it. He cracked up and before we knew it he was grabbing the fish by the lip and holding it up all on his own! He held it long enough for Jenny to snap a few photos and then grunted as he threw it down against a rock! Chris thought quickly and kicked the fish back into the water...the rest of us were too busy laughing we couldn't even stand anymore.

It was so much fun! We are so blessed to have such amazing friends and awesome small group at church.

On Monday, we took Darryl in for his first surgery. He saw Mark Wood and got a set of tubes put in his ears. Darryl did really well and we could already tell by that afternoon that he was feeling better. Hopefully we will not have any more ear infections! He was really cute in his hospital gown though! But even by that night we were playing with friends at the park. He is such a fun little boy!!

A new game and a baby sister on the way!

We have been cracking up because Darryl is playing all kinds of new "games".
Last week, Grandma Kim and Grandpa Darryl were over and Darryl starting getting on all fours on top of you and you would giggle as you crawled out from underneath him. You loved it so much that as soon as you did it, you turned around, laughed, and fell back on the floor completely flat on your tummy. You would then wait until Grandpa would come over and lay on you again. It is so funny! You just laugh and laugh!

You also love to take a blanket and put it over your face and try to "scare" people. You cover your face, wait a few minutes, and then pull it down and scream in a low and loud voice. Then you laugh at yourself of course! We love to laugh with you.

Your personality grows every day! Your grandma Vickie stayed with you a few weeks ago while we were in Colorado. She said that you had the best time! When we got back, we went to the zoo and ran around in Wallace and Karen's pool because it was finally nice outside. It was so great!

Today I picked you up from your Grandma Kim's and you were exhausted and fell asleep on the ride home. I scooped you up and we took a nap together...it was great! When you woke up Daddy came in and you snuggled with both of us because you were still pretty sleepy. Then, you started giving us kisses. Daddy would say "give mommy kisses" and you would crawl over to me and give me a big kiss. Then I would say "give daddy kisses" and you would crawl over to him and give him kisses. We played this game for a good 20 minutes. You were so sweet! We laughed and laughed when you started trying to give us open mouth kisses... we had to turn away because of all the slobber!

We love you so much. We are so excited for you to get to meet your baby sister!!! That's right... we are adding a little girl to our family. It is going to be so fun to see them play together. I can't wait!

One Year Old..

I can't believe it has already been a year.
I remember people constantly telling me to treasure every moment because it will fly by and wow...they were right! I can't believe its been two months since I have posted on this blog! We have been so busy and out almost every night with family and friends. We are so blessed by the people in ourlives and for the amazing ways that they have been there for us this year. It really does take a village to raise a child and for that we want to say THANKS to all of you who have been there for us this year. There are so many of you it is overwhelming.

Where to begin? Darryl is full on walking, running, and stomping now. As of last weekend, he no longer takes bottles or formula, and loves that he gets to eat big people food and drink milk (Mommy and Daddy love it too!). He is always laughing, clapping, and giving us an onery smile when he knows he is doing something wrong. We can already tell he is stubborn, because no matter how many times we swat his hand those cabinets are far too tempting!

A couple weeks ago Darryl started daycare! He goes to a home daycare with his friend Jake and 4 other babies while Mommy and Daddy are at work. He loves all the foods he gets to try and playing outside with friends. Yep, he still LOVES being outside. And people...Darryl absolutely loves being around people (he is a little like his Mommy...)

At Christmas, we put shoes on him for the first time and he didn't even want to touch the floor! It was hilarious! But after a while he got used to them and now loves to wear them. He only gets frustrated when they keep him from pulling off his socks.

Baths get more and more exciting every day. He loves to splash, stick his head in the water, and play peek-a-boo with the shower curtain. He laughs and laughs and always gives us a huge smile with his beautiful 6 teeth!
Last weekend we had Darryl's first birthday party! It was monster themed and so much fun. We had masks for the kids, cupcakes, food, and a cake for Darryl. He loved the cake and after playing with it for a few seconds dove right in!

We had to cut him off! We were overwhelmed by all the people who came to show their support and love for him. I stopped counting at 50 people! It was a full house! All of his baby friends were there to play with too. This year, Mommy and Daddy joined the Harrington small group at church. It was the best decision we could have ever made! Now Mommy and Daddy have lots of new friends as well as Darryl!

One of the most exciting discoveries in the past couple months is that Darryl is going to be a big brother!! Baby Wehunt #2 is due in August. We couldn't be more excited to start this baby mania all over again!! More details to come..
