Darryl's First Day at Church

Today we took Darryl to church with us for the first time! I won't lie...we were a little nervous about it...how would he do? Would he scream the whole time? Would we be able to get him ready in time? When would we feed him? We were particularly nervous because he has been so gassy the last few days so he has been a little more fussy then normal.

But then we were like... well... lets give it a shot and see how it goes! And he did great!! Chris and I tag teamed and got him ready on time, and we walked into the student room before going to service. Everyone was so excited to see him! It was so great! It is so much fun to see people so excited and how loving they are toward him.
We went to service and his Daddy held him while he slept the whole time. He did make a few small noises that I have fallen in love with. It was so fun to listen to the sermon but then also hear his sweet little coos.

Toward the end of the service I started getting his bottle ready and we fed him as soon as the service was over. Then I took him to the ladies room to change him... it was a full restroom so I am very glad that he didn't choose that moment to pee all over me. :)

We then went and taught our small group and then went to Flat Tire for lunch, where of course his Grandma Kim was more then happy to hold and feed him. But the morning completely wore Mommy out so we came home and I took a nap with him on my chest while Chris unwound with some video games. Its been a great Sunday!
This week we also went to the offices for the first time so I could say hi to everyone and so they could meet Darryl. It was so much fun but I was definately tired afterword. I am very thankful that I have 4 more weeks of maternity leave. Everytime I think that I'm fully recovered I go do something and get exhausted!! :) (But that could just be due to lack of sleep!)

We also saw lots of friends and had lots of visitors. This was our last week to have meals brought to us from members of our church and we have been so thankful for everyone who gave us the meals! Thank you so much!!!
Darryl also had his first trip to Jimmy's Egg to see Stephanie, Jamie, and Natalie and went on his first Target trip (Mommy was pretty excited that she figured out how to use his stroller! I felt so Mommyish as I was walking around with him :). We have also been to the Fite's house and of course Gamestop :). We also had a late night at the Loehrs' house last night that was so fun.
I also gave him a bath for the first time by myself! (Kim and David were here for moral support :). He cried a little but since I had him in the water the whole time I think he liked it much better.
Darryl has also started sticking out his tongue, and he is lifting his head like crazy! He is so strong and I can't believe how much bigger he seems to me already!

I love him!!! I love being a Mommy!! Here are some pics from this week...

What I love about you....

It has been so fun being home with my little man these past two weeks. Its amazing how much I fall more in love with him each day! Here are a few of my favorite things...

1. I love the way that he stretches his arms straight out when you pick him up while he is sleeping. It almost looks like he's going "why I outta...."
2. I love his big toes! They are HUGE! It cracks me up. I wonder if he will be tall??
3. I love the poop faces he makes! The best is when he lifts his eyebrows and pinches his lips together (and you are definately a Wehunt, EVERYONE knows when your pooping... lol)
4. I love how he screams his head off when we give him a bath, but stops immediately and smile when we wrap him in his hooded towel.
5. I love how he eats! Especially at night when all he has on is a diaper. He streches his neck straight up, lifts his eyebrows and folds his little hands together. He looks like ET!
6. I love that he is most comfortable when his hands are clasped together. He always gives this big sigh when he finally gets them folded just right. We laugh at how he "houdinis" out of his swaddle so he can have his hands together.
7. I love the way he looks at me when I burp him. I have him up against my chest and he curls up and just stares at me.... then lets out a HUGE belch!
8. I love his hair. It is so long and fluffy after he gets a bath! Chris combs it into a little combover but within seconds its crazy and standing straight up!
9. I love taking naps with him on my chest. There is no better feeling in the world.
10. I love the little noises he makes when he is going to sleep. He grunts and yawns and sighs. It makes my heart melt every time. I don't know how I ever slept without hearing those noises in the baby moniter.

The First Weeks Home...

I can't believe that it has already been a week since we brought Darryl home. I am amazed at how quickly I have been healing and how quickly the little guy is getting adjusted. We have had an eventful week of great food, visitors, and well... lots of Dr's appointments. Turns out Darryl was having a hard time getting food from Mommy, and he quickly sunk scarily below his birthweight. After lots of visits to the dr. and to the awesome nurses at Mercy, we figured out he wasn't getting enough food and started supplementing and putting him on a eating schedule.
He has done so much better! As of yesterday when we went to see his favorite doctor Willie he weight 6 pounds 14 ounces (that was before he let out a massive poop... but we'll count it!)

So the first couple of nights were pretty rough on Mommy and Daddy because we couldn't figure out why he kept crying. Turns out the poor little guy was hungry!!! Now that we have him eating more he has been back to his usual fun self.

This week he has already had quite a few milestones! He is lifting his head (which makes feeding and burping him a very funny ordeal....sometimes he sticks his head up so far he looks like a miniature ET!) He has smiled a lot and even giggled a few times! His ambilical cord and circumcision have healed up so we were able to give him his first bath! He screamed the whole time but he did great afterward! Now his hair is extra fluffy :)

This week we have been so blessed by friends and family who have come to visit and brought us gifts and food. I have been overwhelmed as I write thank you notes and realize just how many people have given us gifts. We are so thankful!

I will post more pics soon... and we will be getting his birth announcements in the mail any day now! I'm so excited!!!

More to come!!

Darryl's Birth

Oh my goodness! This week has been a whirl wind! I have a lot to post so get ready for what could be my longest post to date... alrighty here goes!!

The delivery of our son was absolutely incredible. God blessed us so much... I wouldn't have wanted anything different (well...I maybe wouldn't have minded to not be stabbed FOUR times to get an IV in...but I really can't complain if that was one of the most painful parts!)
Here are some highlights...

I had been wondering if I was having contractions the entire weekend before he was born. I really wanted him to come before his due date because I had decided to go ahead and take off work. My mom came in town Saturday and so we were able to run some errands (of course, we had decided to wait and do a bunch on Monday...we never got around to those :) Sunday night, Chris went to work and my mom, Aunt Kim, and I were sitting around the house kind of watching the Super Bowl when I could tell that my stomach felt weird. I said something to them and started writing down how often it happend. I kind of tried to ignore it, because I was afraid I was just getting my hopes up that he was coming and so I was somehow making it up. We hung out for a few more hours and the feeling didn't go away. Finally at 9:30 p.m., I could tell that something was DEFINATELY going on so I called Chris and he came home from work. We kept writing them down but I still wasn't convinced that I was really going into labor. Finally, Chris convinced me that we really should go to the hospital because he said I usually underestimate my pain tolerance (I thought contractions would be excruciating pain so I kept convincing myself that they didn't hurt enough!) So.... I did what any girl would do... I shaved my legs and put on some comfy clothes :) we headed to the hospital and went to the 5th floor (birth triage) and I was scared to death that we were going to get sent home and that I would be really disappointed. When the nurse finally came in and checked me, she said that I was dialated to a 5 and that she could feel his head! It was time to go to the 6th floor!!

They wheeled me up and we called our families. They said that since I was so far along that I could get my epideral anytime (to which I said...yes please!!) After getting beat up and stabbed several times by my IV, they got the epideral in and things were great from then on! We had a bunch of friends come up and hang out with us in the delivery room, as well as my mom, Aunt Kim, and David. We had a great time laughing and talking about how excited we were that Darryl was finally going to be here.

Some funny memories include "Chip" who was the name that we gave to the student nurse that followed our nurse Madelyn around during the delivery. She walked in at 7 am (after I had been in labor for 10 hours) and exclaimed "OH MY GOSH, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY TO HAVE A BABY!! ARNT YOU SO EXCITED YOU ARE HAVING A BABY!!!" lets just say she was really cheery. I found out later that she had never seen a baby be born before, and that at one point in the middle of it she burst into tears and ran out of the room. Our friends and family were out in the waiting room when she ran out, tears streaming down her face. She stopped and said.... its just so BEAUTIFUL!" and ran of crying. We later found out that she could have gotten in a lot of trouble for doing that :). Ahh so many fond memories of Chip..

Well...after 12 hours of labor, lots of jokes, movie quotes, and some games of travel Settlers... a bunch of nurses started coming into the room. This was it! It was time for us to finally meet our son. Chris and I couldn't believe what was happening. Before we knew it, everyone was out of the room, and Chris was standing over me telling me when to push. Chris was absolutely amazing. He was so supportive and loving the entire time. I couldn't have done it without him!

At one point the dr. exclaimed... Oh my gosh look at that HAIR!!! To which Chris replied "On his head or his butt?" lol we had lots of laughs in the delivery room. After an hour of pushing, baby Darryl was in my arms. I couldn't believe it. Chris and I were both bawling as we listened to him cry. He was so perfect. I couldn't believe that God would bless us with such an amazing gift.

Everyone was so excited to meet him, and over the next few days at the hospital he had lots of guests. It was so much fun to watch him and hold him. We are so blessed!!

More to come, his one week birthday is tomorrow!! I'll post some pics and talk about his first week soon!

He is here!!!

I can't even put into words my emotions from the last 4 days. I'm totally weepy right now because I'm still hormonal but this has been the most beautiful experience and we are so incredibly blessed! I will post the full story soon but for now, here are some pictures....

It is an honor to introduce Darryl Floyd Wehunt, born Feb. 8, 2010 at 1:02 p.m. 6 pounds 11 ounces and 20 inches long.
God is so amazing. He is to be praised!!!

Sooo close!!

Well, we are so close to the due date! I'm so excited!! Haven't been able to blog in a while because there has been so much going on!! I'll see if I can sum it all up as best as I can!

  • Michelle and Jacie Fite threw me an AMAZING baby shower! About 20 of my close friends came and we ate cake, decorated onesies, tried to guess the flavor of baby foods, and the guests all tried to guess how wide my belly was. It was so much fun and baby darryl got some really great gifts! I got some pretty great gifts as well... including some coffee mugs from Lindsey Rae and a bag of "after the delivery" gifts from Stephanie and Jamie that made me laugh so hard I cried!! Baby Darryl also recieved some books with a sweet note from John Mark and Caroline. :) It was so amazing! Jacie got him a painting for his room that is amazing! It has Psalm 139 on it with some dinosaurs and his initials. (I'll post pictures soon!)
  • The next day Kim threw us a baby shower with a bunch of her friends and family and it was a BLAST! lots of good food and great presents. Baby Darryl has lots of cute outfits to wear that is for sure! After the shower, Kim, David and I just collapsed and ordered in Teds for dinner. It was an awesome day!
  • We have had some interesting medical things occur these last few weeks. A couple weeks ago, I went in to see Dr. Levine because there was a sharp pain in my right breast. After she looked at it, she sent me to a place to get an ultrasound to find out what the lump was. Well...the ultrasound didn't cut it so I wound up having to get a biopsy (ouchy!) a few days after the biopsy they discovered that it was a non cancerous abscess. Chris and I went to Mercy hospital a few days later and had a procedure done to remove it (no fun when your pregnant and they can't knock you out for it!) It went well but I am glad its over! I handled it pretty well...Chris on the other hand had a hard time with it...at one point our tiny doctor looked over and said "are you alright?" to which I replied "I'm fine" before I realized he was talking to Chris! Poor Chris passed out and the dr. had to catch him. He was fine pretty quick after that but just a little embarrassed. I say it just shows how much he hates seeing me in pain and that its sweet :) He had to endure some teasing from the church staff about how he will react to the delivery!
  • The night of the procedure, Evan brought us dinner and we got to hang out for a little while. Not long after she left I started having contractions! We went to the hospital and I had contractions for 4 hours before they sent me home. We never really thought they were labor contractions but the nurses said it was from the stress of the procedure. It was a good run through for when we have to go to the hospital for the real thing!
  • Last Saturday, Chris took me out for a date since we realized it could be our last full day together before baby. (Chris didn't have to go into work because it had snowed so bad. When we got home, our entire house was the cleanest I had EVER seen it!! On the table was a note saying that now I could relax instead of worrying about cleaning and it was signed by 5 secret elves. Thanks so much Stephanie, Evan, Julie, Jacie and Jamie!

We have been so blessed by the love we have recieved from friends and family. From the gifts to the food to just the phone calls and text messages to check in on us we have been overwhelmed by all the love we have recieved. Thank you so much!!!

More to come!!! BABY DARRYL PLEASE COME TONIGHT! :)
