Darryl's First Surgery and First Hiking Trip!

Darryl is just so much fun! We have had a blast taking him new places and watching him discover new things. Last weekend, we went with our friends Josh, Jenny, and their daughter Lila to the Wichita Mountains. It was such a fun road trip!

We left around 10 a.m. and let the babies nap while we laughed and talked in the car. Once we got there, we visited the nature center and slathered the kids in sunscreen (or "warpaint" as we called it in front of Darryl). We then drove to a picnic spot and had a yummy lunch while Darryl and Lila played.

Then it was time to hike and fish! Darryl loved touching and "climbing" every rock we saw. Lila is a few months younger then Darryl, so she stayed pretty content strapped to Josh's chest in a baby bjorn (didn't take too long before she was fast asleep!).

We found some spots and started fishing. Josh caught a fish pretty quickly and we brought Darryl down to touch it. He cracked up and before we knew it he was grabbing the fish by the lip and holding it up all on his own! He held it long enough for Jenny to snap a few photos and then grunted as he threw it down against a rock! Chris thought quickly and kicked the fish back into the water...the rest of us were too busy laughing we couldn't even stand anymore.

It was so much fun! We are so blessed to have such amazing friends and awesome small group at church.

On Monday, we took Darryl in for his first surgery. He saw Mark Wood and got a set of tubes put in his ears. Darryl did really well and we could already tell by that afternoon that he was feeling better. Hopefully we will not have any more ear infections! He was really cute in his hospital gown though! But even by that night we were playing with friends at the park. He is such a fun little boy!!

A new game and a baby sister on the way!

We have been cracking up because Darryl is playing all kinds of new "games".
Last week, Grandma Kim and Grandpa Darryl were over and Darryl starting getting on all fours on top of you and you would giggle as you crawled out from underneath him. You loved it so much that as soon as you did it, you turned around, laughed, and fell back on the floor completely flat on your tummy. You would then wait until Grandpa would come over and lay on you again. It is so funny! You just laugh and laugh!

You also love to take a blanket and put it over your face and try to "scare" people. You cover your face, wait a few minutes, and then pull it down and scream in a low and loud voice. Then you laugh at yourself of course! We love to laugh with you.

Your personality grows every day! Your grandma Vickie stayed with you a few weeks ago while we were in Colorado. She said that you had the best time! When we got back, we went to the zoo and ran around in Wallace and Karen's pool because it was finally nice outside. It was so great!

Today I picked you up from your Grandma Kim's and you were exhausted and fell asleep on the ride home. I scooped you up and we took a nap together...it was great! When you woke up Daddy came in and you snuggled with both of us because you were still pretty sleepy. Then, you started giving us kisses. Daddy would say "give mommy kisses" and you would crawl over to me and give me a big kiss. Then I would say "give daddy kisses" and you would crawl over to him and give him kisses. We played this game for a good 20 minutes. You were so sweet! We laughed and laughed when you started trying to give us open mouth kisses... we had to turn away because of all the slobber!

We love you so much. We are so excited for you to get to meet your baby sister!!! That's right... we are adding a little girl to our family. It is going to be so fun to see them play together. I can't wait!

One Year Old..

I can't believe it has already been a year.
I remember people constantly telling me to treasure every moment because it will fly by and wow...they were right! I can't believe its been two months since I have posted on this blog! We have been so busy and out almost every night with family and friends. We are so blessed by the people in ourlives and for the amazing ways that they have been there for us this year. It really does take a village to raise a child and for that we want to say THANKS to all of you who have been there for us this year. There are so many of you it is overwhelming.

Where to begin? Darryl is full on walking, running, and stomping now. As of last weekend, he no longer takes bottles or formula, and loves that he gets to eat big people food and drink milk (Mommy and Daddy love it too!). He is always laughing, clapping, and giving us an onery smile when he knows he is doing something wrong. We can already tell he is stubborn, because no matter how many times we swat his hand those cabinets are far too tempting!

A couple weeks ago Darryl started daycare! He goes to a home daycare with his friend Jake and 4 other babies while Mommy and Daddy are at work. He loves all the foods he gets to try and playing outside with friends. Yep, he still LOVES being outside. And people...Darryl absolutely loves being around people (he is a little like his Mommy...)

At Christmas, we put shoes on him for the first time and he didn't even want to touch the floor! It was hilarious! But after a while he got used to them and now loves to wear them. He only gets frustrated when they keep him from pulling off his socks.

Baths get more and more exciting every day. He loves to splash, stick his head in the water, and play peek-a-boo with the shower curtain. He laughs and laughs and always gives us a huge smile with his beautiful 6 teeth!
Last weekend we had Darryl's first birthday party! It was monster themed and so much fun. We had masks for the kids, cupcakes, food, and a cake for Darryl. He loved the cake and after playing with it for a few seconds dove right in!

We had to cut him off! We were overwhelmed by all the people who came to show their support and love for him. I stopped counting at 50 people! It was a full house! All of his baby friends were there to play with too. This year, Mommy and Daddy joined the Harrington small group at church. It was the best decision we could have ever made! Now Mommy and Daddy have lots of new friends as well as Darryl!

One of the most exciting discoveries in the past couple months is that Darryl is going to be a big brother!! Baby Wehunt #2 is due in August. We couldn't be more excited to start this baby mania all over again!! More details to come..

Such a mover!

I can't believe that Darryl is already 9 months old. It is amazing to think about everything that has happend these past nine months. I remember thinking that I couldn't wait for him to get big enough to move around, laugh, and show his personality. I couldn't wait for that day to come...
Well now that day is here!! He is so much fun. He is crawling like crazy, standing, and has attempted to take some first steps but is still figuring that out. Chris and I are both still predicting that he will be walking by Christmas.
He loves to explore everything! Our entire living room gets destroyed on a daily basis. He loves turning the pages of books, pushing buttons on his toys, clapping his hands, wiggling, and standing by the window to watch his puppies play.
He also loves family wrestlemania! During the day when Chris and I are home we will all get in bed and wrestle. Darryl will laugh so hard when Chris throws him around the bed and tickles him with his beard. It is so fun that he is big enough to do this!
Darryl also loves his friends. Chris and I started going to a new small group and almost everyone has babies under one year old! We have been getting them all together like crazy and it is so fun to watch them play. Last weekend we had Owen, Noah, Lila, and Karris over and they all just played and laughed while the adults hung out. Darryl threw his first fit though because he realized that these other babies were playing with his toys. He tried to take one away from Lila but she fought back. Chris and I just laughed because we knew the day of fits would eventually come.. but so far once we say "no" you stop really quickly so we will enjoy this while it lasts!
Last night a group of us got together to hang out and all the babies played. Then when it was time for bed we had you all in pack n plays all over the house! You all slept great though because you were so tired from all the playing and laughing.
I love you Darryl! I'm so excited that next week I have several days off for Thanksgiving so we will get to spend lots of time together. We are going to be heading up to Welch to visit my Dad's side of the family and I am so excited!!

First Haircut!

On October 8th, it became very apparent that little man's hair was getting WAY too long. So we took Darryl to see our friend Dayla to get his first official hair cut! It was so much fun. While we were waiting in the lobby, Chris gave Darryl some grapes to eat (he wasn't sure how he felt about them) and then he laughed and "talked" to anyone who would listen.

When we went back to see Dayla, she had Chris sit in the chair with a smock on and then put Darryl in his lap. Darryl got a tiny smock of his own and it was so cute! He never fussed, but did get distracted several times because he wanted to watch Dayla and the shiny scissors she was holding. So Dayla gave him a brush to play with and he just laughed and laughed. Toward the end of the cut, Dayla decided it would be best to use the clippers around his ears. It was so funny! Darryl held perfectly still and stared straight ahead into the mirror with a look on his face that said "What is that noise??"

When we were done his hair looked so good!! I couldn't believe how much hair came off of his head and he still had so much left! He looked so much older...like a little boy!

An oddly sweet moment...

Well Darryl, you have been a little sickly these past few weeks. Allergies have been at an all time high and even though your standing more and more now (which helps the drainage) your still swallowing a lot of snot! Your doctor thinks thats why you have been throwing up every once and a while. Not fun for you, and very scary for Mommy and Daddy when it happens!

One of your throw up incidents will always stick out in my mind though because of how amazing your Daddy is. You were in your high chair and I was feeding you while talking with my friend Hannah. I heard you start to cough a little, and then that unmistakeable sound... I looked back at you and you had thrown up all over yourself and your high chair.

I'm not going to lie to you... I was pretty grossed out. My first reaction was, "Oh wow how in the world am I going to get all of this cleaned up?" You of course were bawling. You were covered. That's when the moment happend that I will never forget. Your Daddy was in the living room and he of course ran into the kitchen as soon as he saw what had happend. Without hesitation, he grabbed you and held you close to his chest, not caring that this meant that he was getting your gunk all over his new white shirt. He wasn't grossed out. He didn't wait for someone else to get you. He didn't hesitate. His first reaction was to hold you and make you feel better.

Your Daddy loves you more then you could ever imagine Darryl. I pray that even when you guys butt heads in the future, that you will never forget that he loves you more then you could possibly imagine.

We love you sweetheart. Hope you feel better soon!

A Snuggly Evening

Today was a day that Darryl went to CLC, so his nap schedule was a little off. We put him down for a nap at 4 and he slept until 6 p.m. We went in to go get him and he was still really tired. Chris and I had been watching a movie so we brought him in to our room with us and laid him down on Chris's chest. He was so snuggly! He was in the perfect between stage of sleepy yet awake. I laid my head on Chris's shoulder and just stared into Darryl's eyes and he just laid their contently and smiled back at me. It was heaven! We laid there for another 30 minutes and it was amazing. He would smile and me and Chris and do sweet little laughs in between fighting sleep. I could have stared at that little face forever!!
